Last note about Falwell

I promise this is the last post about Falwell. But if you can stomach it, watch this video.

It’s a 1980s documentary produced by People for the American Way about the birth of the religious right movement. I guess no-one took it seriously.

Donna Druchunas is a freelance technical writer and editor and a knitwear designer. When she's not working, she blogs, studies Lithuanian, reads science and sci-fi books, mouths off on atheist forums, and checks her email every three minutes. (She does that when she's working, too.) Although she loves to chat, she can't keep an IM program open or she'd never get anything else done.

  1. That could have been filmed yesterday.

Its unnerving to see willful ignorance as a way of life. I am glad I am in Canada but we have our own share of crazies.

  2. A fair number of clips from that programme were used in the documentary "The God Who Wasn't There". The guy who believes that homosexuals should be executed gets my vote for the biggest nut.

Right at the start the guys who's sick and tired of the perverts and the liberals says: "It's time for god's people to come out of the closet" – Ted Haggard did just that, then went back in :-)

  3. I had to stop watching when I heard, "I don't want everybody to vote… as a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."

I want to know more, but I don't think my temper can handle it.

  4. I still wonder if its fair to blame the wierdness of the USA on him?

I mean the US seems historically to go through eras of paranoia:

    1920s, 1950s, 2000s. …

Anyway, Mr. Falwell made me proud to be Canadian.
