What should I be reading?

Taking a page from PZ, I realize that I haven’t updated the old blogroll thingie since I first figured out how to use it. So! If you write (or know of) a skeptical or science-y blog that you’d like pimped, please post a linksy in the comments and I’ll (probably) add it.

  1. I'm going to be starting a blog in the next week or so. It's actually a group project with a few friends to help coordinate our math/physics seminar series, and I'll probably use it upon occasion to recycle the better comments I have made while procrastinating my way across the Blagnet.

  2. If I actually posted with any regularity, or had any special knowledge about any subject whatsoever, or if I actually kept my personal life out of the blog, I'd totally suggest linking mine, which can be found at http://expatria.livejournal.com.

But since I rarely ever get inspired enough to write a really worthwhile entry (such as this one) I'll be satisfied to just 'pimp' my link here in the comments. Not that my handle hasn't ALWAYS linked to it. ::cough::

  3. Okay, I'm going through adding you all now! JLam, it doesn't suck! But I can't figure out whether or not you meant to misspell "stupidity" in your banner image.

By the way, you all had better link back to me or I'll make you pay. Possibly with some kind of "negative" blogroll, which will sap traffic from your site. I'm pretty sure that's something that's possible.

  4. Thanks, Rebecca. I linked you in a post, as silly old LiveJournal doesn't offer a 'Links' section (or at least not on my chosen layout). Perhaps this will give me the impetus to post more frequently…but most likely, no.

Blake, be sure to let us all know when your interblagosphere is up and ready for perusal! I'm certainly not the only one looking forward to it. :)

  5. Holy Crizzap! Nevermind that last post, as I found where I could add links finally. You're 'hooked up' even though I'm sure your visits for a single day exceed those for the history of my blog.

  6. I'm skeptical…somewhat. Although, according to the bulk of the commenters on my blog, I'm simply "close minded." I tried to tell them I was actually "clothes minded," but they weren't buying it. Hey, maybe they were skeptical too…Nah.

  7. Shameless plug for http://skeptigator.com

Skeptigator – Aggregating Skeptical Thought, I know, it does sound important ;)

I just started a couple of weeks ago with this blog. I've been doing this stuff in my personal blog (and a longtime listener of skepchick) but a friend of mine told me to dedicate something to just skepticism and science news, so I did. Of course, she's a punk and won't help me :P

It's primarily a link blog where I try to find news/articles/blog posts and other flotsam from around the Internet that a Skeptic (at least myself) would enjoy. I do try to limit the commentary but sometimes I just can't help myself.

Comment in a post if you would like to help and have some street-cred then email me at skeptigator at the gmail

  8. Well we love you Rebecca, and we'll keep pimping you whether we're on your blogroll or not.

At UDreamOfJanie we do Evolution and Erotica, Science and Sex, Humor and Humping, Fundy bashing and Fuc… Ok, I suppose I made my point. :)

We're safe for work 'bout half the time… the other half we have something interesting to say!

    ;)

  9. Well, it's attempting to be sceinc-y and skeptical-ly, but my patience with IDiots wears thin rapidly and I do descend into anti-creationist rants and such…On the other hand, the blog is very young, and there's still hope of it reaching some kind of stable calm…maybe! Here, anyway…

  10. I recommend two sites.

    David Colquhoun's Improbable Science page.
    http://www.ucl.ac.uk/Pharmacology/dc-bits/quack.h

David is a professor in the pharmacology department at University College of London. His site exposes medical quackery and does a lot of work in debunking some of those dangerous and misleading alternative medicine products. I've found his site to be an invaluable reference source.

Okay, I'm a bit biased by there's also my web site,

    The Sceptical Preacher
    http://thepreacher.wordpress.com/

I focus on religion, mediums, alternative medicine and fraud.

  11. Forgot to mention, I added a link to your site last night and I have two more sites for you.

    http://www.whydoesgodhateamputees.com/

This site takes the form of an online book that does a pretty decent job of debunking the gods. It comes recommend by Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris and it's easy to see why.

    Also, there's Richard Dawkins' site.

    richarddawkins.net

It's going pretty well and the forum has one of the best online populations I've seen.

  12. Just over a month ago, Expatria said the following:

Wish given, wish granted, albeit an eternity of Internet time later. Science After Sunclipse is now three posts old.

  13. BlakeHappy Blagbirth! (or something to that effect.) :-)

Since your subject matter is not something I can comment on, I will point out two things I can comment on: Your Lyon pictures: As much as I love red, the red one makes the riverfront look scary – it looks like the haunted riverfront! Or bordello-red…The blue is soothing (like a blue lava lamp light).

Also as an aside, I googled "sunclipse" because I recall reading somewhere someone wanting to use the words sunclipse and sunsight instead of sunrise and sunset. It's here. I don't think we'll ever get away from sunrise and sunset, and that's OK by me as long kids are taught what really happens.

And now you have a place to post your clever sonnet. :-)

  14. April and May have gone fluttering past, and thanks largely to Bill Hicks I've now risen from the blogospheric Z-list to, like, W or something.

Melusine, which sonnet did you have in mind? (A while back, I was trapped in a hellish meeting and kept my sanity by composing the first octet of an ode to Motoko Kusanagi, but I don't think that's the one you're thinking of.)

  15. Blake, it was in reference to this thread: http://skepchick.org/blog/?p=450#comments

You said you won something; elsewhere you said you won a Tom Lehrer CD in a Materials Science class, so I assumed you were speaking of the sonnet on the Lanthanide Series that is alongside one of Shakespeare's sonnets. Someone else once asked you about wanting to see it, in fact, on Pharyngula, and you did not reply to them. It seemed a clever enough way to incorporate the symbols, though I'm not sure that would be the easiest way to remember them.

Geesh, you're too easy to google.
