Calendar Update!

I have just lugged home 350 pounds of skeptical calendar goodness, and am presently stuffing envelopes (while podcasting, sorry if I seem distracted on this upcoming episode). I’m hoping to get the bulk of them shipped out by this Saturday, December 2.

I have to say, they look fabulous. Last year’s were good, but the printer gave me a bunch of crap and many of the calendars came in with scuffed covers. The new printer did a much better job, with vivid, glossy covers and better stock paper. They took awhile, but the wait is worth it. Start checking your mailboxes next week!

  1. Woo! (No, not the bad kind.)

    I can't wait for my calendar-y goodness.

Say, in one of the recent podcasts, you mentioned that you would sign the calendars if we added a comment to the order. I didn't hear that until after I ordered. :( Is it too late to request a signed calendar? (I'm guessing Saturday is definitely too late, if that's when you expect to have them all sent. ;))

  2. I am guessing that next week is too soon to start checking my mail box all the way down here in Australia but I should get it before Christmas! Then there will be much rejoicing!! Yay!

  3. They're being sent out on my birthday 8)

That's gotta mean something (is what I would say if I was a woo that is …)

  4. Of course it means something, Exarch! Don't you see the pattern?

    Events happening on December 2nd:

1804 Napoleon becomes 1st French emperor, placing crown on his own head

1859 John Brown (abolitionist) is executed by hanging at Charles Town, WV

1942 1st controlled nuclear chain reaction (Enrico Fermi-U of Chicago)

    19?? Exarch is born

2006 Skepchick calendars mailed out to anxiously awaiting fans. Riots ensue.

See the pattern? OK, me neither. But it's not hard to see how "psychics" can string this stuff together to convince people they know what they're talking about.

Happy birthday, and many happy returns of the day!

  5. Exarch, you realise of course that means your star sign is Ophiucus…

My Skepchick calendar arrived this morning! Huzzah! I'm impressed by the postal service that got it here so quickly too, I thought it would take weeks to wing its way across the atlantic!

  6. Joshua, I'm afraid it was already too late, as I had them all sealed up prior to sending them out on Friday and Saturday.

Slashnull, that's amazing! Are you in the UK? Yours must have been one of the first to go out, on Thursday, but that's still very fast.

  7. If the calendars were delivered to the UK that quickly, I think it's looking good for the "Santa Claus *could* deliver all those presents in time" hypothesis…

  8. slashnull, I didn't know that.

I always told people my starsign was "yield", but I like this one better 8)

  9. I'm living in Ireland at the moment, so it didn't have *quite* as far to travel. But the calendar made it's way through An Post in record time (my local sorting office is often quite slow with Amazon packages).

I can't believe that Rebecca of all people uses Santa Claus to deliver her mail…

  10. Prompted by the previous comment, I realized I hadn't checked my mailbox yet, and decided to do so. And …

    Nothing :(

But, since birthday cards people sent me last week still haven't arrived either, I think it'll at least be after christmas by the time I get my calendars.

A package I sent to SF two years ago around this time of year didn't get there until the end of March, so I've learned to be patient.

  11. Hey are you brining any to TAM (if you have some left at that point)… I don't know why I would procrastinate that long but if I do the option would be cool.

  12. "I’m afraid it was already too late, as I had them all sealed up prior to sending them out on Friday and Saturday."

Too bad! Well, if there's ever another Boston SkepThing, I'll be sure to bring my calendar. ;) (Unfortunately, I can't make it to TAM.)

  13. Yes, I use Santa for my deliveries, Exarch lives on the moon, and I will be bringing calendars to TAM.

The third option is only slightly more plausible than the first two – I suspect there's a very good chance that at the current rate, we may be sold out by then. So, I'd recommend you order now!

And Joshua, definitely bring your calendar to the next get together and I'll sign it for you.

  14. I just listened to the skepticality podcast about the calendar, and Phil actually mentioned me! I'm flattered :D
