Finding science in the oddest places.

Out with a friend tonight at my new neighborhood pub, a very cool place I’ve frequented in the past and is now mere steps from my abode. I used the bathroom halfway through my third Oktoberfest, and found the following written on the stall door in marker:

I (HEART) SCIENCE

Followed by

Me too!

Followed by, I shit you not,

Lawrence Summers SUCKS!

Not only did it make me howl with laughter mid-pee, but it also inspired an interesting conversation with my friend — who is a biologist at Harvard — about women in science. Wish I had more awake time to relate that conversation, but there seem to be tiny anvils tied to my eyelids. Maybe tomorrow, if I can recall it all.

  1. True. There are probably things people write on restroom stall doors that they wouldn't dare post anonymously on an internet forum…

  2. Far more creative than most of the defacement in the mens room, it's all so hackneyed. The drawings aren't even anatomically correct.
